Accelerate your innovation journey with MIT's Expedited Licenses. Our guide helps you quickly access MIT software.

What is an Expedited License?

The Technology Licensing Office understands the need for speed and efficiency in today's fast-paced world. Our Expedited License program, formerly known as "Ready to Sign Licenses," is designed to facilitate quick and straightforward licensing transactions for various MIT Software programs. This comprehensive guide walks you through what an Expedited License is, how to obtain one, and what you should know throughout the process.

Who Can Use Expedited Licenses?

Expedited Licenses are available only to parties who are willing to accept the agreement without any modifications. The party interested in the license needs to complete and return the agreement to MIT’s Technology Licensing Office, signed by an authorized representative.

How Does it Work?

  1. Review the Agreement: The first step in obtaining an Expedited License is to thoroughly review the license agreement, which can be accessed via each software landing page.

  2. Complete and Return: After reviewing the terms and conditions, the next step is to complete the agreement and have it signed by an authorized representative of your organization.

  3. Internal Review: MIT’s issuance of a license is subject to satisfactory completion of compliance and internal policy reviews. This ensures that the license aligns with MIT's values and policies.

  4. Final Execution: Once MIT reviews the agreement and finds it satisfactory, it will be fully executed by both parties, at which point the license agreement becomes effective.

Benefits of an Expedited License

  • Speed: Expedited Licenses reduce the time usually required for back-and-forth negotiations.

  • Standardized Terms: The terms and conditions are standardized, making the process transparent and straightforward.

  • Ease of Use: With clear instructions and pre-vetted terms, the process of obtaining a license is simplified.

Important Note

It’s essential to remember that the license agreement will not become effective until it is reviewed and fully executed by both parties involved. MIT takes compliance seriously, and each license is subject to internal policy reviews before it can be issued.
