LICENSING INTERN - Koch Material Transfer Agreements

The licensing intern will work with our incoming Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) team that facilitates the sharing of research tools and materials from companies and other research institutions in support of research at MIT.

Responsibilities

  • Support the incoming MTA group on agreements for Koch Institute (KI) labs requesting materials from third parties, including outreach to KI labs that frequently request materials
  • Review incoming MTA requests for funding information and compile funding agreements that may present conflicts for review
  • Review and process MTAs for materials ordered from Addgene, and summarize any unusual terms for the PI and researchers
  • Review finalized MTAs for completeness, and implement signature process of completed MTAs
  • Conduct a monthly audit of expired MTAs and notify PIs
  • Review MTA memos received in connection with invention disclosures from KI faculty, and compile relevant agreements for compliance review by TLO/TLA
  • Maintain a status report of outstanding MTAs for KI labs, outlining outstanding issues, for bi-weekly update to the Executive Director of the KI

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or biomedical fields required
  • Service-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to ask questions and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English
  • Able to interact with a wide range of MIT researchers including faculty and students
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative, tight knit team

Eligibility

  • Current MIT Masters or PhD student
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Commitment and availability to work 10 hours/week (during the spring and fall semesters)
  • MIT PhD students must obtain permission from their PI and/or faculty advisor prior to submitting an application
